Final Layout

Here is the final layout for the book. I used indesign to create the layout and text, which proved quite effective and was pretty easy to use once I got the hang of it.

So my plan for this book was to print out the pages and get them professionally bound by Elite Book Bindings in Mitchell. I didn't actually think about the problem of printing double sided, which ended up proving the biggest hassle as I couldn't find any printers in Canberra that would do it. I  bought some matte paper and tried printing double sided at school through indesign but that didn't really work out either, and the paper I was using was not the same texture on both sides.

With all troubles aside I ended up printing single sided and delivered it to the binder that way. I received my book this morning and the result is excellent. I think in the end the fact that the pages aren't double sided doesn't matter too much as the book is twice as thick this way. Elite book bindings completed the job in less than 24 hours and the results are great so I would highly recommend them to anyone wishing to bind anything. The prices were reasonable as well altogether it only cost me $45 to have around 16 pages bound, a hard cover and silver letting on the front cover.

Images for the Book

Below are all the images I ended up shooting and narrowing down to use for the book. I didn't use all of these but I will show them anyway.

These images are from one of our assignments last year in Sylvia's class. This particular style is what I had in mind when thinking of ideas for the book. For example black and white images, props, clothes, dark moody atmosphere etc. The first and last shot in particular would fit in really well with my crime story. I won't use these images, but want to shoot something quite similar.

Photographer Research

One photographer whose style I want to draw on is Gregory Crewdson. His images are all well planned out and are great at telling a story. Below are some examples of his work and show his cinematic style.

The concept for my crime story was influenced by the early film noir stories. Below are some stills from that era. It is also this sort of hollywood black and white crime style that I want to incorporate into my shots.
